For I am like a lion to Ephraim, like a young lion to the house of Judah; It is I who rend the prey and depart, I carry it away and no one can save it from me.

I will go back to my place until they pay for their guilt and seek my presence.

In their affliction, they shall look for me: „Come, let us return to the LORD, For it is he who has rent, but he will heal us; he has struck us, but he will bind our wounds.

He will revive us after two days; on the third day he will raise us up, to live in his presence.

Let us know, let us strive to know the LORD; as certain as the dawn is his coming, and his judgment shines forth like the light of day! He will come to us like the rain, like spring rain that waters the earth.”

What can I do with you, Ephraim? What can I do with you, Judah? Your piety is like a morning cloud, like the dew that early passes away.

For this reason I smote them through the prophets, I slew them by the words of my mouth;

For it is love that I desire, not sacrifice, and knowledge of God rather than holocausts.

But they, in their land, violated the covenant; there they were untrue to me.

Gilead is a city of evildoers, tracked with blood.

As brigands ambush a man, a band of priests slay on the way to Shechem, committing monstrous crime.

In the house of Israel I have seen a horrible thing: there harlotry is found in Ephraim, Israel is defiled.

For you also, O Judah, a harvest has been appointed.

When I would bring about the restoration of my people, when I would heal Israel, The guilt of Ephraim stands out, the wickedness of Samaria; They practice falsehood, thieves break in, bandits plunder abroad.

Yet they do not remind themselves that I remember all their wickedness. Even now their crimes surround them, present to my sight.

Aşa spune Domnul:

^5,14 Eu sunt ca un leu pentru Efraim, şi ca un pui de leu pentru casa lui Iuda;

eu, da, eu voi sfâşia, şi apoi voi pleca, voi lua, şi nimeni nu-mi va răpi prada.

¹⁵ Voi pleca, mă voi întoarce în locuinţa mea, până când vor mărturisi că sunt vinovaţi

şi vor căuta faţa mea. Când vor fi în necaz, vor alerga la mine.

^6,1 „Veniţi să ne întoarcem la Domnul!

Căci el ne-a rănit, dar tot el ne va vindeca;

el ne-a lovit, dar tot el ne va lega rănile.

² După două zile el ne va da iarăşi viaţa;

a treia zi ne va învia şi vom trăi înaintea lui.

³ Să ne dăm silinţa să-l cunoaştem pe Domnul!

Venirea lui este sigură ca zorile dimineţii;

va veni la noi ca o ploaie de toamnă,

ca o ploaie de primăvară, care face pământul să rodească».

⁴ Ce-aş putea să fac eu pentru tine, Efraime?

Ce-aş putea să fac eu pentru tine, Iuda?

Iubirea voastră este ca norul de dimineaţă,

ca roua care dispare de îndată.

⁵ De aceea i-am biciuit prin profeţi,

i-am nimicit prin cuvintele gurii mele

şi judecăţile mele vor străluci ca lumina!

⁶ Căci iubire vreau, nu jertfe,

şi cunoaşterea lui Dumnezeu mai mult decât arderile de tot.

⁷ Dar ei la fel ca Adam au călcat legământul; iată, acolo m-au trădat.

⁸ Galaadul este o cetate de nelegiuiţi, plină de urme de sânge!

⁹ Grupul preoţilor este ca o ceată de tâlhari, care stă la pândă,

săvârşind omoruri pe drumul spre Sihem; da, se dedau la mişelii.

¹⁰ În casa lui Israel am văzut lucruri înspăimântătoare:

acolo Efraim se desfrânează, Israel se întinează.

¹¹ Şi ţie, Iuda, îţi este pregătit un seceriş,

când voi aduce înapoi pe prinşii de război ai poporului meu!

^7,1 Când am vrut să-l vindec pe Israel, atunci s-a descoperit nelegiuirea lui Efraim

şi răutatea Samariei, căci lucrează cu înşelătorie.

Înlăuntru vine hoţul, şi ceata de tâlhari jefuieşte afară.

² Şi nu se gândesc în inima lor că Eu îmi aduc aminte de toată răutatea lor;

faptele lor îi înconjoară, şi stau înaintea Mea!”
